Electronic Immunization Registry
Child Electronic Registration and Vaccination (CERV)

CERV is a mobile based tool for Electronic Immunization Registry (EIR) that aids to monitor individual immunization schedules and immunization histories to enhance the performance of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) program in terms of coverage and efficiency. The CERV is fully implemented in 100+ union councils of the Peshawar and Islamabad districts. The Union Council is the lowest administrative layer of Pakistan and Peshawar is a polio high risk district of Pakistan. The app can be used to all fixed centres, outreach sessions, by mobile teams and health houses to help the government to fully immunize all children and for the elimination of all the VPDs. The vaccinators are entering all data into the application.

CERV app maintains the permanent register, daily register, tally sheets, stock register and the vaccinator attendance and generates tally reports based on coverage, consumption and stocks, defaulter list, dropouts and fully immunized children listings. The CERV application has advanced features such as child finger print scanning for identification, real-time inventory levels of health facility, cold chain volume visibility and cold chain working status and it is linked with central EPI MIS system.

Prior to CERV implementation, data was on the papers and was very difficult to analyse by the health managers. With the implementation of CERV in 92 UCs of Peshawar, the data of children is visible and district health office is proactively taking decision using data collected through the application. The periodic meeting has already been started to review EPI performance in the district. The application is in use since May 2020 and retrospective data was entered into system by vaccinators from January 2020. The data analysis shows that 6% children registered at birth, 70% registered from 1-42nd day of birth, 7% between 43-71st day of birth, 3% between 71-98th day of birth and 6% children registered > 98th day of birth. In addition, 8% children registered during campaigns and never received vaccination dose. These are some statistics and further stats can be produced from the data depending on the need and operational requirements

An electronic immunization registry (EIR) is a confidential, computerized, population-based system that collects and consolidates vaccination data from vaccinators for better immunization strategies. CERV is a mobile based tool for Electronic Immunization Registry (EIR) that aids to monitor individual immunization schedules and immunization histories to enhance the performance of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) program in terms of coverage and efficiency. There are evidences that EIRs can help increase vaccination coverage. CERV to facilitates several things i.e. individual follow-up of vaccination status, tracking defaulters (persons who are overdue for a vaccine dose) and automatically generating messages for recalls (to alert persons about overdue doses) and for reminders (to alert persons about upcoming doses), provider assessment and feedback and vaccination clinical decision support.
